In the same family for over 200 years, the estate has its heart at the monte, an ancient small farming village, which has been brought carefully back to life as a remarkable hotel of understated luxury, surrounded by ancient holm oaks, olive groves and vineyards. Inhabited since Neolithic times by sedentary tribes, São Lourenço do Barrocal was once the epicentre of the megalithic culture of Central Alentejo. This ancient history lays among the barrocais (the huge outcrops dotting the landscape), which represent some of the most monumental natural features of Alentejo.

Hortelão
Taste fresh vegetables on the grill, alongside delicious certified organic veal, acorn-fed pork of the Alentejo and fish from the Alqueva lake. The restaurant Hortelão is located by the pool and the organic kitchen garden and is a great way to experience, upfront, amazing farm to table Summer food. It is open for dinners only, from mid-Spring till the beginning of Autumn.

Hotel Bar
In the old olive oil mill room, surrounded by the past and the present of the estate, lays the hotel bar. Whether sitting at the counter, in a more private leather chair or in a table set outside with the sun setting in the horizon, every nook and cranny is worthy of a toast. Take a sip of Barrocal's wine tradition with a glass of one of Barrocal's wines, or enjoy a refreshing cocktail made with the best products from Alentejo and the surrounding area.

Pool Bar
For decades, it was one of the three water norias that fed the old vegetable garden of the estate, today it’s the oasis next to the pool where you can cool off and take a break from all the sunbathing. The pool bar is ready to shelter you from the Alentejo heat with the help of a menu of light meals and cold drinks. From the early morning to the end of the afternoon, enjoy this little corner of Barrocal that’s only available for guests, during the warmer season of the year.

A beautiful single vaulted aisle serving all the spa treatment rooms is one of the most striking architectural features of both spa and hotel in Alentejo.
