Pousada Barão de Forrester is located in the village of Alijó, near the River Douro. It is the only Pousada de Portugal in the Demarcated Douro Region. Its name is a tribute to Joseph James Forrester, English businessman, living in Portugal during the nineteenth century, who, in 1855, received from King Fernando II the title of Baron, for his dedication to the study and appreciation of the Douro and Port Wine.

Its connection to the Douro and the history of the oldest regulated and demarcated wine region in the world, provides an experience that brings the visitor and guest to the time and space of the Baron of Forrester. After upgrading works, the Inn now breathes a more contemporary feel while maintaining visible every detail from its roots Douro.

The Inn comprises a total of 21 ROOMS, 8 of which are double and the rest are twins. Of the total ROOMS, 8 have large balconies. The Inn also has 1 Room for the Disabled.

Pousada Barão de Forrester also features a restaurant where guests can sample the local cuisine and try some international flavors. Alternatively, a series of Restaurants, serving traditional Portuguese dishes, are available at 150 meters from the accommodation. Both in the Restaurant as in the ROOMS, each space tells a different story on the Douro.

Restaurants & Bars
The Baron's Restaurant is located inside the Inn and is a meeting place with the flavors from Douro. The Restaurant's menu is based on traditional recovered recipes, with meats, smoked meats and seasonal vegetables. The menu also values ​​the wines by the proximity to the Douro region, birthplace of Port Wine.

Location and Directions
The center of Alijó is at 6 minutes walk. The green areas from Alvão Park are 49 minutes away by car. Vila Real is 32 minutes drive away and features the famous and picturesque Mateus Palace.
