Discover the culture, gastronomy and wine from the Alentejo region considered "the best wine region in the world to visit," according to the publication USA Today or named "New Tuscany" by New York Times.

The Alentejo is one of the most beautiful regions of the country, it requires a long narrative, with a continuous and attentive presence in time and space, something that this overview cannot reveal in full. The region breathes a history immersed in periods of unrest and bonanzas. A land where culture and tradition go hand in hand. There is something deeply reinvigorating and redeemer in the Alentejo landscape, the endless space, in the immensity of the rolling plains with cork trees, the wide sky with an immaculate blue, horizon infinity and obviously in its people, in the quiet people, honest and proud of Alentejo.

This itinerary was designed thinking of those who want to become connoisseurs of wine, gastronomy and all the singularities of the Alentejo region. In a warm and dry environment of terracotta plains, an 8-day tour. You will meet some of the best producers of Portugal, the unique landscapes and the tenacity of its people. This tour was designed and conducted in collaboration with our ambassador Nelson Carvalheiro.

No words to describe it. The Alentejo is more than just beautiful landscapes and historic cities. The places I visited are wonderful. Great food and great wine. Special thanks to Herdade do Sobroso, warm welcome. Thank you Wine Tourism in Portugal, without you guys it would not have been possible. The road book was very useful.

Day 1


Head towards the Alentejo region, at about 1hour from the city of Lisbon you will find paradise, L'AND Vineyards Wine Luxury Resort.

Check-in at L'AND Vineyards Wine Luxury Resort. This is one of the most prestigious accommodations in the Alentejo that combines an excellent gastronomy, wine and accommodation. To rest, nothing better than the comfort of a Sky View Suite at the resort which allows you to see the starry sky lying in bed.

On this first day, you will receive the complete and exclusive treatment L'and Vineyards which has a SPA Caudalie Winetherapy treatment.

Later, you will enjoy dinner at Land Vineyard's Restaurant. The cuisine of Chef Miguel Laffan, awarded a Michelin star in 2017, creates the restaurant menu inspired by the natural environment that surrounds the hotel, presenting dishes with influences from Alentejo in a contemporary interpretation, taking visitors on a gastronomic journey.

Day 2


Breakfast at the hotel.

Enjoy the pool area overlooking the Resort.

You will visit L'and Vineyards Cellar. The cellar is equipped with all modern oenological technology requirements aimed to ensure a high standard wine quality and is the place chosen for its production. You will have a guided visit to the cellar, vineyards and wine tasting.

Take your car and find Monte da Ravasqueira. Connected to José de Mello's family for several generations, Monte da Ravasqueira is located in the municipality of Arraiolos. The cellar of Monte da Ravasqueira is inspired in Napa Valley, California, and is equipped with the most advanced technology for a qualified and rigorous control of the wine making process. You will have lunch and a guided visit with wine tasting.

Discover Arraiolos Village. We suggest a self-guided visit to the interpretive center of Arraiolos Carpets and clay handcrafts of the Aldeia da Terra (Earth Village).

Day 3


Breakfast at the hotel followed by Check-out.

Head to eastern Alentejo. You will find Adega Mayor. This Cellar is designed by the famous Siza Vieira architect where lie down some of the best wines, with over 100 national and international awards, after the visit you will enjoy a picnic with the best regional products in the company of the best views of the Alentejo plains.

Then, we suggest a self-guided visit to the town of Elvas and Forte da Graça (Grace Fort) which is one of the most impressive monuments in Alentejo, considered by many historians as one of the most powerful bulwark fortresses in the world, both are UNESCO World Heritage site.

Check-in at Torre de Palma Wine Hotel. Inspired by the lifestyle of Basilii family and the Alentejo traditions, this is a unique space where you will find the comfort of a hotel, pragmatism of a cellar and the mastery in cuisine.

A ride in a horse Lusitano awaits you to stroll through the estate.

Later, enjoy dinner at Basilli Restaurant. The flavours of the Alentejo with a touch of sophistication. This is a combination that you can find in Basilii restaurant. With a name that pays a tribute to the wealthy Roman family who inhabited in the village of Torre de Palma

Day 4


Breakfast at the hotel followed by Check-out.

Drive south. You will visit Herdade do Esporão. The Herdade presents itself as an Estate steeped in history, producer of outstanding quality wines.The Esporão vines are located in the heart of Reguengos de Monsaraz, where wines are more balanced and seductive, simultaneously thriving and pleasant, luxuriant and with a good ageing potential. If the vines are the lung of the Herdade do Esporão, the cellar is the heart that beats to the rhythm of the harvest and as the result of the work defined by the calendar and by the oenology team. You will have a guided visit with wine tasting.

After the wine experience, you will enjoy a gastronomic menu at Esporão Restaurant. The Herdade adopted a young and enthusiast kitchen's team that privileges the traditional gastronomy and the typical dishes of this region although not neglecting some contemporaneity, managing a cuisine that meets and exceeds the highest standards of quality and functionality. The restaurant's menu rehabilitates the traditional Alentejo recipes, some of which are already forgotten, privileging and using quite exclusively local ingredients.

Check-in at Herdade do Sobroso Country House. The Herdade is placed in the county of Vidigueira and its delimited by the mountain of Mendro at north, the river Guadiana at east and south an immense plain as far as the eyes can see. To the lovers of wine tourism and synergetic tourism, Herdado do Sobroso offers a unit of Rural Tourism integrated in the middle of the property vines.

We suggest a self-guided visit to the
 Alqueva. You should visit Alqueva, this is one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe and the landscapes are a great reason to bring your camera.

Day 6


Breakfast at the hotel.

Drive to Albernoa. You will find Herdade da Malhadinha.

Lunch is waiting for you at Malhadinha Nova Wine & Gourmet Restaurant, signature cuisine led by Michelan Star Chief Consultant Joachim Koerper with the collaboration of the executive Bruno Antunes Chef and cook Vitalina Santos. They propose seasonal menus inspired by the local gastronomy.

After the food experience, you will discover Herdade da Malhadinha Winery. The Cellar of Malhadinha Nova is traditional and sophisticated and brings together a unique set of characteristics favourable for the production of distinctive wines of the highest quality. Guided visit and wine tasting included.

10km away, you will find Herdade do Grous.

Check-in at Herdade dos Grous. The Herdade is located in the middle of the vineyards, olive groves, cork oaks and picturesque white villages in the heart of the Alentejo agricultural region. In this wonderful natural environment, it is not surprise to find the production of one of the most awarded Portuguese wines.

You will have a dinner at Herdade do Grous restaurant, this is a unique experience and the opportunity to follow up with wines from the famous winemaker Luis Duarte.

Day 7


Breakfast at the hotel followed by check-out.

The Herdade do Grous Winery has the guidance of the renowned oenologist Luís Duarte. He is responsible for the making of the best wines of this Herdade. During the tour to the cellars you will learn the different stages of the production of the wine and enjoy different tasting of the wines produced in the Herdade.

Head to Évora considered World Heritage Site by Unesco.

Lunch is waiting for you at Degust'AR Restaurant with the signature of Chef António Nobre.

We suggest a self-guided visit to the city of Évora, there are several reasons of interest to be visit freely, the Temple of Diana, the Lóios Church, the Chapel of Bones and the Cathedral are the obligatory sites.

Check in at the Convento do Espinheiro, A Luxury Collection Hotel & SPA, a former convent of the fifteenth century which is filled with sacred art, tiles and frescoed ceiling.

Later, you will taste Alentejo cuisine at Divinus Restaurant, located in an old cellar of a convent, a delicious meal prepared by Chef Bouazza Bouhlani.
