Day 1

Welcome to Portugal. Wine Tourism in Portugal will invite you to discover the amazing Porto and Douro Valley.

Check-in at Royal Porto Bridges Hotel. A 4-star boutique transformed from an emblematic building from the 70's and one of the most elegant hotels in the city center of Porto, is the result of creation of the Interior Designer Nini Andrade e Silva, recognized and internationally awarded for her admirable works. Nini Andrade Silva is one of the most prestigious interior designers in the world. The hotel isjust a stone's throw from Aliados Square, not to mention the iconic S.Bento Train Station or the most iconic theatres.

Then, we suggest a self-guided visit tothehighlights of the city of Porto. Starting in the historic centre, you should visit theClérigos Tower, designed and decorated by the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni, located nearLivraria Lello Bookstore, considered by Lonely Planet one of the three most beautiful bookstores in the world. AcrossAliados Avenue, you will findSão Bento Railway Station, where you can observe its twenty thousand painted tiles, depicting historical landmarks. Continue toSanta Catarina streetwhere is located the shopping district of the city center,Bolhão Market, one of the oldest and most traditional markets in the city and theMajestic Café, a place where you must stop and taste the famous "rabanada". After enjoying one of the most beautiful views of the Douro River fromPorto Cathedral, we suggest a visit to the Stock Exchange Palace of Porto "Palácio da Bolsa", the building with the most different architectural styles in Porto and the Church of Saint Francisthat is the most prominent Gothic monument in Porto, being also noted for its outstanding Baroque inner decoration. Decorated with exuberant gilt wood work or gold leaf "talha dourada".

Dinner is waiting for you at Traça Restaurant. The restaurant opened its doors in the summer of 2011, and has since been highly praised by some of the toughest gastronomic critiques around the globe. What moves them, above all, is the quality of the recipes, as well as its uniqueness, all based on an Iberian cuisine where you are able to taste the best of what Portugal have to offer. The re-qualification and refurbishment of the space in whichTraçais located is also worth mentioning. In a building of antique refined architecture, a house which used to be a drug store, the wooden structures, the tiles and the iron work are quite notorious. The slates, the game trophies and the antique cupboards compose the environment of this intriguing space which calls out for you.

Day 2

Breakfast in the Hotel.

The city of Gaia, on the other side of the river, is where the Port wine rests. On your own, cross the amazing D. Luiz I bridge, you will find the famous Port Wine Cellars. On this day, we want you to discover some of the finnest.

W & J Graham’s magnificent 1890 Lodge is situated on a commanding ridge in Vila Nova de Gaia across the Douro River from Porto and only a few hundred metres from the river’s south bank. It affords spectacular views of Porto’s historic city centre and the iconic two-tier bridge that connects the two cities of Oporto and Gaia. The entire Lodge has been recently renovated by the Symington family and all its original features restored. Visitors to the Graham’s Lodge can experience the best of three centuries of craftsmanship and heritage. Graham’s is still a working cellar. No visit to the Lodge will pass without hearing the sounds of the Coopers’ hammers or seeing the lodgemen collecting samples for the tasting room. The building currently houses over 2,000 pipes (oak casks) and 40 tonels and balseiros (large oak vats) of ageing Port wine, as well as extensive cellars of Vintage Port, ageing in bottle. The granite walls, over half a metre thick, combined with the maritime climate ensure a constant, cool temperature, ideal for the slow ageing of Port. The high ceiling is still supported by the original Riga Pine beams and the beautiful nineteenth century exterior remains intact. Here you will have a guided visit and Port Tasting.

Lunch is waiting at Decastro Gaia Restaurant. A place for tasting, where wines are matched with Portuguese snacks under the guidance of renowned Chef Miguel Castro Silva. The gastronomy embraces the concept of innovation, diversification and modernity of Porto Cruz project, challenging visitors to taste new experiences that test the palate in an informal yet stylish ambiance. Before lunch, you will have a Cocktail with Port Wine in the terrace with 360º views over the cellars and river.

Near the restaurant, you will find Ferreira Cellars. Go back to the origins of the Portuguese soul and tradition with a glass of Ferreira Port wine. Immerse yourself in the history of Port wine and the Douro region and discover one of its most charismatic and legendary figures. Founded by a family of winemakers of the Douro region, in 1751, Ferreira possesses a rich tradition and a prominent role in the history of the Port Wine. Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira contributed significantly to the consolidation of the brand. A legendary woman with a unique personality, who became a myth and a symbol of strength, facing the adversities of the Douro of the 19th Century. Today, after more than 250 years, Ferreira is "the Portuguese brand ', a reference in Port wines and Douro of excellent quality, a symbol of a country and a culture that it proudly dignifies. For small groups, a private visit to the "Hall of Belongings of D. Antonia" and Ferreirinha Museum with a commented wine tasting of five Port Wines Ferreirinha in the "Old Bar", a tasting room with charateristics of the XIX century.

The last wine experience of the day will be at Calém Cellars. The Calém brand distinguishes itself in the market for the exceptional quality of its wines, consistency and its century-old history. Its cellars have a great reputation in the wine sector and they stand out as a world reference - One of the most visit cellars in the world. Porto Calém was established in 1859 by AntónioAlvesCalém that, taking advantage of the free trade regime in the wine region of Douro, soon turned his trading intentions to the other side of the ocean - Brazil. With this new market, at a time when the exportations to England were the most privileged ones, this company traded Port wine for exotic woods. This era is still remembered by the company logo - a Caravel. This was the driver element for the company and, since then, it knew no more borders. The two greatest icons on the Portuguese culture came together to provide you a different and pleasant evening with a guided tour to the Cálem Cellar and to its ancient traditions, followed by a tasting of Port Wine: White and Special Reserve. After, enjoy a Fado concert, with a male and a female voice, accompanied on the traditional way by a Portuguese Guitar and a Classic Guitar.

Your first visit will be at Quinta do Portal. The Quinta is a Portuguese and independent family company that has embraced with passion the concept of Boutique Winery, and is dedicated to the production of DOC Douro wines, premium quality Port wines and Muscat. The family MansilhaBranco, owner of Quinta do Portal, is a producer of wines in the Douro Region since immemorial times (the first reference we have dates back to 1477) and has always been linked to its key moments, such as the establishment of the General Company for the Agriculture of the Alto Douro Vineyards on the 10th September 1756, which originated the first demarcated region in the world, led by Frei (Brother) João de Mansilha. The warehouse where the wines Quinta do Portal age, is part of a complex that was previously built, an agricultural unit that dominates and is dominated by the vineyards landscape that stretches far out of sight. Guidedvisit to the Storage Cellars with Tasting of 3 Reserve Wines.

Then, you will visit Quinta de la Rosa Cellar. The cellar was built in an unusual location, on a hill with steep stairs that connect the different levels besides the Douro River. Here it is produced the wine that is provided to some of the most important Restaurants and Retailers all over the world. The Bergqvist family has been making Port wine since 1815. The Quinta de La Rosa estate was offered as baptism gift to Claire Feuheerd, Sophia's grandmother, in 1906. In all De La Rosa Port wines the treading of the grapes is the traditional foot treading and some of the Reserve table wines also undergo a cold maceration in the mills before being transferred to the stainless-steel fermentation tanks. You will enjoy a guided visit with wine tasting.

After the visit, lunch will be served at Quinta de la Rosa’s restaurant. With fabulous views over the river, Quinta de la Rosa's Restaurant was opened in the summer of 2017. Named after the owner’s grandmother whose love of food and entertainment was legendary, the restaurant is called "Cozinha da Clara", literally meaning Claire's kitchen. The philosphy of Cozinha da Clara is to serve local Portuguese cuisine at its best – simplicity is the key, including a touch of the family’s heritage, by adding some of Claire’s favourite recipes. The executive chef, Pedro Cardoso, has worked in the Douro for over 10 years. Using locally sourced products and vegetables from the garden (named "Paradise” by Claire), Pedro has developed many of his recipes from the Tras-os-Montes.

Your last visit will be at Quinta das Carvalhas.Real Companhia Velha's crown jewel and the largest wine producing estate in the Douro region.A property of immense beauty and grandiosity whose oldest written reference date back to 1759. This is one of the most emblematic Douro properties and it is considered by many the "Douro image" because it allows a view of the territory and of the most beautiful Douro has to show. Nowhere else, you can see so much in so little time.The mountain of Carvalhas, at 550 meters of altitude and from where you can enjoy a landscape in 360 degrees, is the site of "excellence" for the observation of the property and Douro. The Vineyard Guided Tour is avisit to the Vineyards accompanied by Quinta das Carvalhas guide. Appreciate a direct contact with nature in the vines, Mediterranean forests, and gardens, alongside the people who work them. We offer the chance to see the Douro through the eyes of a local and to relish the greatness of the region with a detailed explanation of everything happening at the Quinta. The tour finishes atour wine shop for atasting of a white, a red and a Port paired with local cheeses.
