Portuguese Wine considered the best White at one of the most important competitions in the World


The international Wine Challenge (IWC) awards hundreds of contestants. Among the winners, in several categories, is common to find Portuguese productions. This year, at the award giving ceremony in London, was no different. But there was a surprise: for the first time, a Portuguese White Wine got the highest possible worldwide distinction, the Campolargo White 2011 has now the right to wear the title IWC Champion White Wine 2014.

"A Portuguese white wine being awarded with the highest award, was an unexpected surprise", said the co-president of the competition, Charles Metcalfe. In the statement, where the five world champions of white wines were announced, Metcalfe highlighted that "more people should taste the Portuguese wines".

In the rating, the Jury refered that Campolargo wine, produced in the region of Bairrada by Manuel dos Santos Campolargo, also considered the best white wine in its demarcated wine region, the use of the Cercial varietal is praised turning the wine "seductive on the nose", is considered "complex and serious" or "fleshy, full body, round and creamy on the palate", leaving a "juvenile fresh end".

"We produce this wine in the same way my grandfather did it", summed Carlos Campolargo, responsible for the winery and sails of the familiar company, which already exports 40% of its production.
